a lesson in abbreviations

Last Thursday I was asked to help out a friend in a bind by baby-sitting her child for the evening. We had corresponded over e-mail about the time, location of her apartment, etc. earlier in the day.

During some of our final correspondence she responded with her address. I quickly noticed the apartment number read "Apt. #PHB." I was a little confused and reasoned that she must have been in a hurry and accidentally hit letters instead of numbers. It was close to the time I was getting ready to leave to go to her apartment, so I decided I would just ask the doorman to direct me to her apartment when I arrived.

Upon arrival, I noticed a directory right past the front doors. I searched for her name and couldn't find it. The doorman came over to assist me and I told him I was there to visit my friend and gave him her name. He told me she and her husband weren't listed and escorted me to the elevator.

He hit a few buttons or codes or something while standing with me in the elevator, none of which I was paying attention to. He then responded, "she's in Pent House B. Take a left right after you get of the elevator." He then exited and I began my ascension.

PENT HOUSE B. Who knew?
